• Both OS started around the same time
•Both gained popularity at a very early stage
This is the comparison between the two most popular mobile Operating Systems, iOS and Android. These two Operating Systems hold most of the market share of Mobile OS. Android holds 74.15% while IOS holds 23.28% in market share.

Starting

This race began with the introduction of iOS in 2007 with the original iPhone. Then in 2008, Google followed with the help of HTC and launched the HTC Dream which became the first phone to launch with Android OS. It Started the race between two companies. Google made Android an open source OS which other manufacturers could implement in their devices while iOS was an Apple exclusive OS. Samsung entered the Smartphone game in 2009 with their take on Android phone as Samsung GT-i7500.

Comparison

User Experience

It is the most important thing in an operating system. It is what users see on their screens. It has to be good looking and pleasing to the eye.
• iOS user experience remained constant for many years with little design changes and addition of new features their main home screen layout is still similar to the original.
The user experience of iOS is great in many ways. It provide an ordered layout of apps and a clean user interface. But some users hate it for being so locked down.
• Android user experience is kind of difficult to explain. The user interface changes from company to company. Being an open source OS different companies take different approach (software skins) to it. Xiaomi have MIUI, Samsung have Samsung Experience, vivo have funtouch OS, Oppo have Colour OS and so on. Google and some other manufacturers like Nokia and Motorola kept stock Android in their devices.
Winner : depends on user

Software Smoothness

• As Android is presented with many skins in which some are lighter and some put too much load on CPU , Software smoothness depends from company to company.
• iOS is Apple only software. So apple can design it according to their devices and launch it for their customers. Software smoothness is always a good point for apple.
Winner : iOS

Customisation

• Apple focus their iOS around user security and they do not give their users many options to customise the theme of iOS. iOS donot have home screen widget support. Users can only change wallpapers and ringtones. App layout on home screen can also be tweaked a little but not more than moving icons.
• As told previously, Android come with many skins on top of it. So, customisation depends on the company of the phone. But at its core, android has much more customisation options than iOS such as native theme support by many companies, ability to clone apps and Home screen widget support many more.
Winner : Android

App support

• iOS have many apps supported on its App Store. As of 2017 iOS supported 2.2 million apps which is quite a good number considering market hold of iOS.
• Android is the most used mobile OS in the world. Due to its big userbase, developers develop more apps for Android. Thus, android’s Google Play Store have more app support than iOS.
Another advantage for Android users is that they can sideload or download APK files from any third party source if they want to.
Winner : Android

Additional Features

• iOS have a few extra features such as screen recorder, adjustable flashlight brightness, wallets and stocks apps built into the system, etc.
• Android have a lot of extra features to offer such as completely redesign of home screen layout, ability to use third party launchers, a well organised status/notification bar and so much more.
