The design trend of first iPhone was followed in smartphones with little tweaks until Samsung took lead in smartphone design and launched their phones with edge displays. This design was very futuristic and reduced side bezels very much. Then in 2016 LG G6introduced first 18:9 display.Samsung took this idea and perfected it to create their “infinity display”.

Samsung’s first infinity display phone became galaxy S8 in 2017.

The Notch Era

The same year Apple surprised everyone with their iPhone X, the first smartphone with a “notch display”.

This was a very popular phone due to its high screen to body ratio. Its design became popular and was adopted by many companies in their own way. Some adopted it as it is while some reduced notch width.

Some manufacturers introduced the notch by just putting front camera and a speaker and named it - the ‘dewdrop notch’

Oppo and vivo tried to hide front camera in another way. They hid the camera in body of the phone which would come out in a mechanical way. But this is not a permanent solution. The mechanism could stop if dust enters in the mechanism.

Now Samsung has introduced a new type of display in which front camera is hole-punched into the display. It was introduced in Samsung galaxy S10
